On this
night – you must
paint, cover and hide
your true face
and that self
that old, dead
capable spirits
know
They are abroad
today – to walk
with them, you must
colour your face
so they do not
recognise you
As the living
at first they pretend
to be the cheerful
dead
I will leave it like that
to protect – my living
face
this is really cool! love your choice of words… there is definitely a haunting feeling left in my stomach… i better go find my face paint.
Thanks you have till the 31st 🙂 then the spirits of the old country come out to walk the streets 😀
well, i’m a girl… it definitely takes some time to properly apply make-up… *tosses hair dramatically* 😉
amazing.. a little starling but i loved it.. 🙂
this is part true Hallows eve mixed with the new Halloween spirit
This applies not just to All Hallows Eve…every day we apply our “face” and hide our true selves…
Very insightful!
Ah a universal truth to be sure
Spooky, a bit off, and kinda funny. The laughing dead… usually I see those around the bars late at night, but this will do.
yeah bars where ever you are attract those kind of people
Yup. But for now I better get my costume together and take the kids for some pumpkins – anything possible to ward off the ghouls and the fools I say.
Oh, I love this. The cheerful dead. Is that a smile or a rictus?
rictus how wonderfully morbid and perfectly fitting 😀
Just popped right into my head… Really do love this poem.
oh I like, especially “paint, cover and hide
your true face
and that self
that old,”
Mucho gracias 🙂
thank you muchly, this is my happy face showing now 😀
yay! I didn’t know your happy face yet, but there it is 🙂 😀
Enjoyed this Bruce. Two layers of fun
(.. one fun..one more meaningful)
That’s super cool
